MELISSA STRAWSER
ARTIST
PRINTMAKER/SCULPTOR
Born in Reading, PA, Melissa Strawser, has been a printmaker
for the past 23 years using print to create some of her most
profound works of art. Primarily created in London then Portugal,
Melissa worked very closely with her late, dear friend, Artist/Printmaker,
Bartolomeu dos Santos in his Tavira Print Workshop
in Tavira, Portugal. Her intaglio prints have been exhibited
in Portugal, Germany, London, Pennsylvania and New York. Melissa’s
work can be seen in galleries, and is in numerous art collections
throughout the USA and Europe. Since 1995, Melissa holds a First
Degree, MA Fine Art/Printmaking from The Slade School of Art,
University College London.
Melissa has been a supportive colleague and art consultant on
international projects for BERTOIA STUDIO for over
a decade now. Independently, she maintains a studio with Bertoia
Studio, designing and fabricating sculptures made of copper,
bronze and brass. Most recently, she established a Intaglio Print
Workshop here called Gray Matter Workshop. Melissa’s prints
are drawings or studies for her sculptures.
Melissa Strawser is inspired and driven by nature and by her
surroundings on a world level. Her work has been developed through
a designed and styled, nomadic-type lifestyle. The movement of
natural light across the earth’s surface intrigues her and
has always been a great inspiration. She is gracious and fortunate
to have been nurtured by a history of artmaking in her FOLK
ART family. |
