Contemporary artist,
Melissa Strawser, was born in Reading, Pennsylvania. Melissa’s art work is that of 5th generation Artist influenced by a family of Pennsylvania Folk Art and inspired by ‘everyday as art,’ open for interpretation which streams from memories, desires and dreams.  She is a proud mother to one daughter.

The collaboration of printmaking and sculpture is inspired by her 20 year working-relationship with Val Bertoia.

When Val asked her to etch a drawing onto his formed Bronze Gong she automatically drew from the center outward, a philosophy often used while working with metals, and apropo for Bertoia, her version of a Dandelion Puff seeded and emerged.
The etched bronze is sensitized for her creative versions of Bertoia symbols. 4 Artist Proof prints are pulled from each Gong and all inked differently. The sounding Gong by Val Bertoia and the etching and 1st pulled Artist Proof print by Melissa Strawser is made available as a Diptych.
